December 13, 2006 | Hotel Mercure Paris Montmartre | Paris, France Hosted by European Nano Systems 2006

NanoTransfer 2006

Pekka Koponen  - Managing Director Spinverse Consulting, Finland

Finland's National Nanotechnology Programme 2005-2009

Tekes, Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation finances R&D projects to promote the competitiveness of Finnish industry. Tekes has an annual budget of 420 million euros for challenging and innovative R&D. Tekes launches technology programmes to areas that are important for business and society.

Nanotechnology has been chosen as one of key technology focus areas by Tekes. Enabling nanotechnology offers possibilities for new innovations almost in all industrial sectors. FinNano, the Finnish Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Programme coordinates at national level activities to study, exploit and commercialise systems and phenomena occurring on a nanoscale.

The programme activity focuses are: 1) innovative nanostructure materials, 2) new solutions for nanoelectronics and 3) nanosensors and nanoactuators. The duration of programme is five years, spanning 2005 - 2010. The total budget is approx. 70 million euros. Presently more than 100 companies and research units are participating in the FinNano nanotechnology programme. The projects comprise a broad spectrum of technological challenges from antireflective dirt resistant surfaces to tailored nanostabilizers for biocomponent interfaces.

The presentation will cover:

  • Nanotechnology in Finnish Industry - review on players and their activities
  • Nokia's vision on nanotechnology impact on mobile devices
  • Selected case studies, e.g.:

1. Atomic Layer Deposition-cluster

2. Nanotube-enhanced epoxy for composites

3. CNT-based new materials for field emission applications

  • National contact points to help partnering with Finnish companies

Pekka Koponen, Founder and Managing Director of Spinverse Consulting, has strong international experience in emerging technologies and markets. He currently consults several leading technology enterprises in mobile software and nanotechnology sectors.

Pekka has worked 14 years with Nokia, of which over six years in expatriate assignments in Europe and Asia . His experience covers several company functions including R&D, marketing, sales and creating new ventures. Pekka's latest positions were Partner in Nokia Early Stage Technology Fund and before that Director of Strategy&Business Development of Nokia's Mobile Software-unit.

Pekka has a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Oulu , Finland and an MBA from IMD, Lausanne , Switzerland . He has a family of three kids. Pekka's hobbies include snowboarding, marathons and boating.
