"Laboratory for Thin Films - Nanosystems & Nanometrology (LTFN)" & "NANONET" Network Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

The "Laboratory for Thin Films - Nanosystems & Nanometrology (LTFN)" is established at the Physics Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). LTFN has an experience of over fifteen years in Thin Films & Nanosystems Technology, Fabrication of Nano-structured materials, Developing in-situ and real-time optical monitoring techniques, Modelling & Software, Nanobiotechnology and Nanometrology.

The main research activities and core competences of LTFN are the following:

(i) Thin Film & Nanomaterials Technology: Thin Films & Coatings, Multilayers deposition & Microfabrication with various PVD techniques, Vacuum Systems Design & Process control

(ii) Plasma Treatment & Surface Engineering: Ion beam processes, Surface preparation & Dry Cleaning, Surface Treatment with plasma and ion beams, (RF, DC, Pulsed DC), ion surface cleaning (etching)

(iii) Optical Technology & Nanometrology: In-situ and real-time optical monitoring of Thin film growth and Plasma Cleaning, Non-destructive characterization & Nanometrology, Ellipsometry (IR-NIR-VIS-UV), Optical Scattering Instrumentation & Measurements, Diagnostic imaging

(iv) Nanostuctural & Nanomechanical Properties: Thin films and Coatings, Nanostructured & advanced materials (soft & hard, flexible polymeric films), Biological materials

(v) Biocompatible - haemocompatible materials, anti-microbial thin films & Surface functionalization. Deposition of biocompatible nanomaterials on hard & soft (polymeric materials), of flat and 3D geometry.

(vi) Theory, Modeling of Atomic processes: Modelling of Thin films growth & surface treatment processes, Optimization of growth parameters, Ion beam process, Micro and Nano-machining, Software for the analysis of Optical - Electronic - Mechanical behavior of materials and microsystems.

Over the last fifteen years, LTFN has coordinated many EU & National projects and collaborated with many research institutes and companies. LTFN can boost the most advanced technology and is fully equipped to handle nano-materials, thin films, coatings and nanoparticles fabrication, testing, evaluation & surface characterization. More details in the LTFN's facilities and equipment you can find in its website.

LTFN is the Lab Coordinator of NANONET Network. The activities and services of NANONET cover the rapidly growing fields of Nanotechnologies and Nanobiotechnologies. Every approach on the fields of Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies needs to be done in the terms of interdisciplinarity. This interdisciplinarity takes shape in this network, seeing that the collaborating laboratories (more than 15 member Labs) and scientists research field cover Physics, Material Science & Technology, Chemistry, Nanosystems & Computing, Science & Engineering, Biology, Nanobiotechnology & Medicine.

The intention of NANONET is the creation of a core that will coordinate the activities & services of AUTh Labs, Labs that are located in Greece and cooperate of those affiliated Laboratories all over the world, that are active in the fields of Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies & Nanobiology. The purpose of NANONET is to also to enchance its relations & bonds with industry & production.
