Virtual Presentations as User ManualsAbout the customer: Aquathin (www.aquathin.com) is a provider of water purification systems, filters and water softeners. With 28 years of experience and multiple awards, Aquathin is a company well-established in its market niche. Project Scope: The company had a well-developed product line and a strong distributor network. However, like 99% of all companies, technical documentation consisted of regular text-based product manuals and schematics. After the initial discussion with Aquathin, we realized that Virtual Presentations would have the highest impact if used as an alternative way to explain the Installation and Maintenance procedures. The second target public consisted of new technicians from Aquathin’s extensive distributor network who needed to be trained efficiently. The message – we had to cover all the steps pertaining to installation and maintenance at a level of detail that would prove comprehensive enough to allow the installation of the equipment. Making the procedure easy to understand while covering all the details was a very important goal of this project. Developing Virtual Presentations We started with a trial project on Aquathin KT - one of the company’s products. The graphics used photorealistic 3D models. However, the usage of computer generated graphics enabled us to present cut-through sections and to explain the inner workings of some of the components. Also, developing the animations allowed us to quickly generate some 3D pictures for Aquathin’s manuals. Bottom Line For each project, we were able to concentrate the content of +20 pages of text and diagrams into a 5-minute Virtual Presentation. Developing the manuals has brought Aquathin increased customer satisfaction, an efficient way to train new technicians and a high-impact way to promote its products in areas where it has yet to set an Authorized Dealer. |
